General Atomic Energy (GA) announced on October 20, 2022 that it has developed a stable, compact advanced Tokamak fusion pilot plant concept that maximizes efficiency, reduces maintenance costs, and extends facility life.  

The pilot plant will use superconducting magnets to contain and confine the plasma.  Microwaves will be directed into the fuel to heat the plasma to more than 100 million degrees Celsius to maintain and control the plasma.  The device will utilize General Atomic's proprietary Fusion synthesis tool (FUSE) for rapid diagnostics, optimizing the plant for maximum efficiency.  The Fusion Synthesis tool is a highly flexible and modular modeling tool that will allow engineers, physicists and operators to easily conduct research ranging from the design of specific components to the conceptual optimization of power plants.
