The International Energy Agency (IEA) recently released a new version of its World Energy Outlook (WEO) report. In the report, the IEA predicts that nuclear power will more than double by 2050 and that at least 30 countries will expand their use of nuclear power. The global energy crisis could be a historic turning point for cleaner, safer energy in the future.
The current global energy crisis is bringing about deep and lasting changes in national energy markets and policies that are likely to accelerate the transition to more sustainable and secure energy systems, with nuclear power assuming an even greater importance, the report said. Commenting on the report, Samar Bilbao Leon, director-general of the World Nuclear Association, said nuclear energy could make an even greater contribution to the goal of full decarbonisation of all sectors.
