Le MONde: The French government has finalized a bill to spee

release time:2022-10-14

Elisabeth Born announced in the National Assembly that a text aimed at promoting the construction of six new nuclear reactors would be submitted to the Council of Ministers.  At the same time, the prime minister wants to "accelerate development" of renewable energy.

Le Monde reports that the French government's nuclear rehabilitation plan will take its first significant step within weeks, as announced by Emmanuel Macron at Belfort in February, with a bill aimed at facilitating the construction of six new reactors.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Elizabeth Bone declared that "we must promote and accelerate the development of these projects," the first of which must be operational by 2035, "in particular by relaxing certain administrative procedures."  Use the power of the National Assembly.  "This is the meaning of the nuclear bill to be presented to the Council of Ministers in early November," the head of government elaborated.

Elizabeth Bone also said that "by the end of this month" MPS would examine bills aimed at "accelerating the development" of renewable energy.

Regarding wind power, she wanted "improved integration of landscapes and better planning of facilities to rebalance wind power development in the territory and avoid anarchic creation of parks" before the senators.

"A diversified portfolio is an opportunity, a protection.  That is why we must move forward on two legs, renewables and nuclear ", pleaded the prime minister, setting out the government's energy strategy based on "three pillars" : clean, "carbon-free electricity production around nuclear and renewables", and "the development of new energy carriers such as carbon-free".

She argues that "cleanliness and electrification will transform our use and daily life" and "will protect us from energy shocks and future crises".  "They will help keep bills down.  By consuming less, we will spend less.  I will ensure that the energy transition is a just transition, "she promised.

Elizabeth Bone also wants a "safety net" for struggling local authorities facing rising energy prices to be "extended until 2023" and benefit "all communities".  Local authorities have faced rising energy prices since the start of October, but food can also claim a "deposit" of state aid to compensate them for the increased costs.
