A transformer has caught fire at Japan's Tokai Daini nuclear

A transformer at the Tokai No. 2 nuclear power plant in Tokai Village, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, caught fire at around 7:50 PM local time on September 13, NHK television reported.
The report quoted NTEPCO, the operator of the plant, as saying that the transformer that caught fire was located outside the radioactive material management zone, so there was no risk of radioactive leakage, and radiation monitoring around the plant had not changed. According to TV Asahi, the transformer fire was extinguished in about four minutes and no one was injured in the accident.
According to the report, the transformer that caught fire was used for related safety works being carried out at the plant and was temporarily located near the port on the site of the plant, outside the radioactive material management area.
Nishi said it would investigate the cause of the fire with the fire department and report it to local authorities, according to the report.
The report said there was a fire at the Tokai No. 2 nuclear power plant in December 2014 when part of a fan filter caught fire. (END)
