On July 29, 2022, Russia's Technical Equipment Export Company (Tenex) signed an agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to conduct research on a long-term storage system for spent fuel. The study will be carried out within the framework of the IAEA Coordinated research project "Long-term Performance Assessment of Storage Systems" (PASSED).
The PASSED project aims to promote the exchange of operational experiences of wet and dry spent fuel storage systems, discuss spent fuel storage system evaluation experiences, plans and new technologies, and lay the technical foundation for long-term system performance evaluation. The project will contribute to the sharing of Russian experience in addressing the design, construction and operation of spent fuel storage facilities, as well as understanding the development status of spent fuel and high-level waste storage containers in Russia, so as to improve the safety of spent fuel storage facilities.
