Germany is divided over whether to extend nuclear power
release time:2022-07-14
After the outbreak of the Conflict between Russia and Ukraine, European countries have fallen into a dilemma of energy shortage, and Germany's decision to shut down its remaining three nuclear power plants by the end of this year has triggered domestic controversy. In response, German Vice Chancellor and Economy and climate protection Minister Habeck said July 12 that nuclear power will do little to help Germany's current gas shortage. Germany is facing heating problems and industrial problems caused by a shortage of natural gas, while nuclear power is mainly a solution to electricity problems.
Germany imported 35 per cent of its gas from Russia in the first quarter of this year. Germany's main opposition party has repeatedly called for the country's three remaining nuclear reactors to continue operating beyond the end of the year amid fears that Russia could cut off gas supplies to the country.
