Moscow, July 7 (Sputnik) -- Ukraine's nuclear power plant continues its transition to using U.S. -based Westinghouse nuclear fuel, and the third nuclear power plant in the country is the Rovno nuclear power plant, according to the press service of the State Nuclear Watchdog. 
 
 
 
"Westinghouse fuel assemblies were loaded into the reactor core of unit 3 at Rovno nuclear Power Plant," the source said.  Unit 3 is the seventh of the 13 VVER-1000 reactors in Ukraine to use Westinghouse fuel." 
 
 
 
A total of six units -- units 2 and 3 of the South Ukraine NUCLEAR Power Plant and Units 1, 3, 4 and 5 of the Zaporo Thermal Power Plant -- are already using U.S. energy, according to a release from the ministry. 
 
 
 
Ukraine began using Westinghouse fuel for its VVER-1000 reactor in 2015 as part of a plan to diversify nuclear energy. 
 
 
 
Energoatom, a Ukrainian company, said earlier that Ukraine would give up buying Russian nuclear fuel altogether.
